Centrino 2. What?

ในยุคที่เศรษฐกิจตกสะเก็ด การเมืองเคล็ดขัดยอก เราคนไทยที่อยากเห็นความสงบสุขและรอยยิ้มของคนไทยที่มีให้แก่กัน ไม่ว่าความคิดเห็นจะต่างกันอย่างไร ไม่ต้องไปไหนไกล เข้าไปห้องเพื่อนบ้านทีไร ความดันขึ้นทุกที คนเรามีความคิดเห็นที่แตกต่างได้ แม้แต่ตัวเราเองบางครั้งยังไม่ยอมรับในการกระทำของตัวเองเลย เพราะฉะนั้นเลิกทะเลาะ หยุดว่ากล่าวกันซักทีเถอะครับ หันมาทำงานพัฒนาบ้านเมืองในหน้าที่ของตนกันดีกว่า ร่ายมาซะยาว ไม่ได้เข้าเรื่องเลย เอาละครับเพื่อไม่ให้เป็นการเสียเวลา ก็ขอเริ่มเลยแล้วกัน ในขณะที่บ้านเมืองลุงแซมเค้ากำลังมีปัญหาทางด้านซับไพรม์ ก็ไม่ได้หมายความว่าทุกธุรกิจจะติดขัดหรือถดถอยไปซะหมด อย่างน้อยก็ยังมีบริษัทหนึ่งที่พัฒนาอย่างไม่หยุดยั้ง เพื่อก่อให้เกิดกิเลสแก่พวกเราๆ ทั้งหลาย ไม่ใช่ใครอื่น ยักษ์ใหญ่ อิลเทล นั่นเอง หลังจากที่ได้เปิดตัวซีพียูรุ่นใหม่ๆ กันออกมาอย่างต่อเนื่อง ตอนนี้ก็ถึงเวลาของ Centrino ที่จะได้รับการขนานนามใหม่ซะที แต่ก็ไม่ได้มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงไปมาก แค่เติมเลข 2 ต่อท้ายไป กลายเป็น Intel Centrino 2 มีหลายคนสงสัยว่า Centrino 2 มันคืออะไร Processor ตัวใหม่ของอินเทลใช่หรือไม่ หรือคนที่พอจะรู้คร่าวๆ แล้วก็อยากรู้ว่ามันมีอะไรเพิ่มเติมที่แตกต่างไปจาก Centrino อย่างไร ผมเริ่มหาข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับโน๊ตบุคมาได้สักพักหนึ่ง เพราะตัวเองกำลังจะซื้อเครื่องใหม่เครื่องแรก หลังจากได้มรดกมาหลายเครื่อง หาไปหามาก็เริ่มเจอคำถามเกี่ยวกับ Centrino 2 ด้วยความที่อยากรู้ว่ามันดีกว่า Centrino ยังไง เผื่อจะได้ใช้เงินเก็บที่มีอยู่อันน้อยนิดอย่างคุ้มค่าที่สุด ไปสอยเครื่องที่ได้รับการคัดสรรมาอย่างดี ผมเองก็ไม่ได้มีความรู้เกี่ยวกับมันมากมาย แต่ที่มาเขียนบทความอันนี้ก็คงตามคอนเซปของผม คือ "..จะรู้บ้าง ไม่รู้บ้าง ตามประสา อย่าด่าว่า ถ้าที่มา นั้นมันผิด แต่ก็ดี ที่รู้แล้ว ไม่ได้ปิด ส่งต่อนิด ค่อย ๆ คิด แล้วดีเอย.." ก่อนอื่นเรามาทำความเข้าใจกับ CPU ของ อินเทลกันก่อนนะครับ กล่าวเรียงตามลำดับโดยคร่าวๆ เพียงแต่ mobile CPU หรือ CPU สำหรับโน๊ตบุคนะครับ เพราะ Centrino มีแค่ในโน๊ตบุคจ้า Notebook processors Intel® Core™ processor family - Intel® Core™2 Extreme mobile processor - Intel® Core™2 Quad mobile processor - Intel® Core™2 Duo mobile processor - Intel® Core™ Duo mobile processor - Intel® Core™2 Solo mobile processor - Intel® Core™ Solo mobile processor Intel® Pentium® processor family - Intel Pentium dual-core mobile processor - Intel® Pentium® M processor Intel® Celeron® processor family - Intel® Celeron® Dual Core processor - Intel® Celeron® processor - Intel® Celeron® M processor ทีนี้ถามว่า Centrino คืออะไร ถ้าจะตอบแบบกำปั้นทุบดิน Centrino ก็คือ CPU ของ Intel แต่ บวกเข้ากับ Intel Chipset แล้วก็ตบท้ายด้วย Wireless Network เพราะฉะนั้น Centrino ต้องมีคุณสมบัติด้วยกันสามข้อนี้ (ถ้านับข้อดีได้สามข้อแล้วก็ตกลงใจซื้ออินเทลมาใช้ อิอิ) Centrino เริ่มต้นเปิดตัวในปี 2003 โดยมี Code Name นำร่องว่า Carmel platform (2003) ซึ่งประกอบไปด้วย Mobile chipset an Intel 855 series chipset (codenamed Odem or Montara with Intel Extreme Graphics 2), DDR-266. Mobile processor an Intel Pentium M processor (codenamed Banias or later Dothan) with a 400 MT/s FSB, Socket 479. Wireless network an Intel PRO/Wireless 2100B (codenamed Calexico) or later 2200BG mini-PCI Wi-Fi adapter (codenamed Calexico2). จากนั้นก็ได้มีการพัฒนาเรื่อยมาจนมาเป็น Sonoma platform (2005) Mobile chipset an Intel Mobile 915 Express series chipset (codenamed Alviso with Intel's GMA 900), DDR2-533. Wireless network Wireless Modules - an Intel WiFi Link 5100/5300 mini-PCIe adapter (codenamed Shiloh), and the add-on card WiMAX (802.16) (codenamed Dana Point), or - the Intel combo WiFi/WiMAX Link 5150/5350 mini-PCIe adapter (code-named Echo Peak). โดยภาพรวมแล้วการตลาดของอินเทลขายชื่อ Centrino มาเป็นเวลานาน ไม่ว่า CPU จะเปลี่ยนจาก Pentium มาเป็น Core ก็ยังคงใช้ชื่อทางการค้าเดิมอยู่ แต่เมื่อการมาของตระกูล Core ของอินเทลเองมาแรงมาก ทำให้ผู้คนสนใจที่จะเรียกหาโน๊ตบุคที่มี Core CPU เช่น Core Duo, Core 2 Duo เป็นต้น จึงทำให้เราหลงๆ ลืมๆ ไปกับชื่อ Centrino จนวันนี้ Intel ได้พัฒนาไปจนถึงระดับ 45 nm เลยคิดที่จะให้มีความแตกต่าง เพื่อไม่ให้เกิดความสับสนของผู้บริโภค (แต่เราก็ยัง งง กับมันอยู่ดี) เลยเปลี่ยนชื่อมาเป็น Centrino 2 นั่นเอง จะเห็นได้ว่าส่วนที่เพิ่มขึ้นมาหลักๆ ที่เห็นได้ชัดก็คือ Chipset - RAM support for DDR2-667, DDR2-800, DDR3-800, DDR3-1066 SO-DIMM. - Gigabit Ethernet LAN controllers.
